Exhibition in Motion–SNAG
The Renaissance Grand Hotel Ballroom
Asheville, North Carolina
May 21, 2016
The Society of North American Goldsmiths holds an annual conference. A 16-year tradition at this event is the fundraiser Exhibition in Motion (EiM), a live fashion show and fundraising event featuring models wearing cutting edge jewelry.
This year’s theme was Xchange: Fashioning Intersections. The idea was collaboration, calibration and cooperation where the pieces were made in partnerships and celebrated large scale sculpture worn on the body. All pieces were displayed presentation style while 20-30 looks were chosen for the runway portion of the event. The 2016 EiM Coordinators were Matt Lambert and Louise Perrone.
I collaborated on this piece with Sara Sindler. Sara conceived and executed the collar/headdress, and I fabricated the ear adornment which hooks over the top of the ear, features floral elements to the side of the face and continues those elements behind the head. In cutting the plastic components on my lathe, a curly thread is formed. In the collaboration process I sent a variety of materials to Sara to play with, and she wound the curls with rhinestones to achieve the effect. Sara's work can be seen here.

Technically, it’s not jewelry, but it uses the same components as some of my rings, earrings and necklaces and shows the customization that can be done. More show information is available here.
